CRDF Calls
Projects and travel
In order to receive quick and effective support for short-term measures related to their research projects, all academics at the University of Bremen can apply for separate funding from the University’s Central Research Development Fund (CRDF). Doctoral students are also eligible and can apply for their own funds here. As a measure to increase the international visibility of research “made in Bremen”, there is a separate funding line for conference travel expenses. Early-career researchers, in particular, can apply for a travel allowance when presenting their research findings at high-level international conferences.
Supporting collaborative initiatives and recognition for success
The University encourages participation in collaborative research and supports the submission of applications in coordinated programs and the necessary preparatory work. Under certain condition, it is possible to apply for financial support for grant applications. Finally, premiums are awarded for success in the acquisition of third-party funds in specific programs [DFG first-time proposals).
Promoting innovation
Focus projects offer professors and senior researchers the opportunity to pursue new research ideas together with doctoral students, thereby increasing their chances of acquiring third-party funds. One funding priority is on projects in the humanities. Exploration projects offer established professors at the University of Bremen the opportunity to use so-called "trust money" to explore new fields of research without the need to carry out extensive preparatory work. Particularly noteworthy in this context are the interdisciplinary exploration projects, which promote highly topical, innovative cooperation projects between at least two disciplines. The target group includes both professors as well as experienced postdoctoral researchers.
Supporting talent
The funding line BremenIDEA targets doctoral researchers of all faculties of Bremen University who have been accepted by the respective doctoral committee. The financing of stays abroad is intended to help doctoral researchers to network internationally, to present their own research project abroad and to initiate possible further cooperation. With the funding line “Independent Projects for Postdocs”, the University has created its own funding program for outstanding early-career researchers. Postdoctoral researchers from Germany and abroad who have exciting ideas for their own projects are supported with the granting of a position with a three-year term. The target group includes both young researchers shortly after graduation as well as experienced postdocs aiming at a professorial appointment.
