- In the next step, please change your initial password.
- Next, please complete the details to determine your responsibility and select an application procedure.
- Complete the online application in full and send it electronically to the University of Bremen.
- You will then receive a confirmation by e-mail.

University transfer students are students from other universities who are enrolled there in the same subject with the same degree for which they are applying at the University of Bremen. Transfer students can only apply for a higher semester, the number of semesters is updated. Admission as an advanced student is only possible according to the courses offered, i.e. advanced students can only be enrolled if the Bachelor's degree programme is offered in the corresponding semester.
Subject changers are students at Bremen University or other universities who wish to change their subject and/or degree. A change of subject usually takes place in the first subject-related semester in the winter semester. Even if you are already enrolled at the University of Bremen, you must apply online.
Lateral entrants are students of the University of Bremen or other universities who apply for a higher semester in a related subject. The prerequisite for this is at least one semester of creditable coursework from your previous degree programme. For free subject combinations, the credits do not have to be proven within the application, but by 30 September/31 March of each year.
Further information can be found on our pages on changing university and subject.
First-year students can submit up to 12 applications to the University of Bremen and the other universities via Hochschulstart.
Advanced applicants can only submit one application for a higher semester. In this case, the application is only submitted via the moin portal and not via Hochschulstart.

Selection procedure: NC and programme-specific requirements
For many degree programmes, certain knowledge or skills must already be demonstrated before starting the course. These include, for example, pre-study internships, music entrance exams or language skills. The aim is to enable you to complete a high-quality degree programme within the standard period of study - without the required knowledge, you would not be able to follow the course material. Here you will find all the information you need about programme-specific requirements.
Under NC values you will find the limit values from the latest authorisation procedures.
The average grade is not improved.
20% of places are allocated according to waiting time. The waiting period is the period after the Abitur during which the applicant did not study in Germany: For example, an applicant goes abroad as an au pair for a year after leaving school or does a three-year apprenticeship: This results in 2 or 6 waiting semesters.
A maximum of 7 waiting semesters will be considered.
Applications with the same waiting period are sorted according to the average grade. In the event of a tie, applicants who have completed a recognised period of service will be given preference. In the event of another tie, the decision will be made by lot. Waiting times are accumulated regardless of whether you have actually applied for a place.
Further detailed information on the NC can be found on our page on the admission procedure.
Improvement of the average grade
Special reasons in the person of the applicant for which he/she is not responsible and which prevented him/her from achieving a better grade point average. This includes applicants who were prevented from achieving the full academic performance possible through no fault of their own. (PLEASE ENCLOSE SCHOOL REPORT)
Improvement of the waiting time
Special reasons in the person of the applicant for which he/she is not responsible and which prevented him/her from achieving a better waiting time. This includes applicants who were prevented from obtaining a higher education entrance qualification earlier due to circumstances beyond their control. (PLEASE ENCLOSE SCHOOL REPORT)
Only in the case of equal ranking, i.e. the same average grade and number of waiting semesters, will applicants with a recognised period of service be given preference.
The period of service completed after obtaining the university entrance qualification is automatically counted as a waiting period.
You may be entitled to preferential admission. You are entitled to admission if you were admitted to this degree programme at the beginning of or during a period of service.

Questions about the online application form
If you want to start your first degree programme from scratch, please enter Semester 1. If you were already enrolled at a higher education institution or at the University of Bremen, it depends on whether you have creditable academic achievements for the degree programme you are applying for. If you would like to change to a related degree programme with credits or a degree programme with the same name, please enter semesters 2-6. If you are changing to a completely new subject without creditable coursework, please enter semester 1. The reason for the question about the subject semester is that the application procedures for first-year students and advanced students are very different. You can find more detailed information on this on the website for university, subject change and lateral entry: www.uni-bremen.de/ortswechsel and www.uni-bremen.de/fachwechsel
For technical reasons, all degree programmes that are awarded in cooperation with Hochschulstart.de are always marked as "restricted admission", even if they are admission-free. If you apply within the application deadline and fulfil all admission requirements, you are guaranteed a place on the course.
You can check whether your degree programme is admission-free and whether any programme-specific requirements need to be met in the degree programmes offered by the University of Bremen.
Leave the "Subject" field blank in the search mask. Instead, select "Bachelor Lehramt Grundschule/Inklusive Pädagogik" or "Bachelor Lehramt Gymnasium/Oberschule" or "Bachelor Lehramt Gymnasium/Oberschule Inklusive Pädagogik/Sonderpädagogik" as the type of degree and enter "1" for the subject semester.
Some of the study places for Business Administration/Economics, Elementary Mathematics, German and Digital Media are allocated according to the so-called qualified average grade, i.e. the overall average grade in the Abitur certificate is offset against the average grade in certain school subjects. This grade is used to form a third ranking list in the NC procedure, which is used to allocate 60% of the study places, for more information see www.uni-bremen.de/nc
There are some special cases here:
- I only had the school subject for four semesters, what grade do I enter in the fifth field? Please enter the overall grade point average stated in your school leaving certificate.
- I did not have an artistic subject (art, music, performing arts) at school, what grade do I enter? Please enter the overall grade point average stated on your school leaving certificate.
- I have already completed a degree programme and entered the grade of my first degree as the grade of my university entrance qualification (HZB) - which school subject grades do I enter? Please enter the overall grade of the first degree programme in all subject grade fields.
- I have a higher education entrance qualification via a vocational qualification - which subject grades do I enter? Please always enter the converted grade of your professional qualification that leads to the university entrance qualification.
For technical reasons, it is necessary to enter your study history for each application. We apologise for this inconvenience.
Here you will find information on the two-subject Bachelor's programme.
Here you can find information on teacher training programmes.
You will often be asked about your previous studies in various steps of the online application, even though you may have already answered this question. We apologise for this inconvenience. The information is required in the online application for technical reasons in the background.
The status "valid" is transmitted when the applications are released by the university. At the University of Bremen, this release only takes place when the application deadline has passed (i.e. after 15 July). The status that you can see in the University of Bremen's online portal is important. If this status is "Participation in the allocation procedure", your application is complete and can be released after the application deadline. It will then receive the status "valid" on Hochschulstart.
A withdrawn application does not take part in the award procedure.
A new application with the same choice of subject cannot be submitted. Instead, you must reactivate the withdrawn application.
Please send an e-mail to sfs.onlineprotect me ?!vw.uni-bremenprotect me ?!.de. The Student Administration Office will then reopen your application for processing.
Please do not withdraw your application and do not start a new application with the same study programme.
The application hotline is usually staffed by several people in July and August Mon - Fri from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m., but not all calls can be answered at the same time. Please check this FAQ list to see if your question has already been answered or try again. For questions about the BA application/study programme, please use the contact form or contact us on 0421/218-61110. For questions about the MA application/study programme, you can also use the contact form or contact us on 0421/218 61002. You can also contact the Central Student Advisory Service on 0421/218-61160, zsbprotect me ?!uni-bremenprotect me ?!.de
(Please note: The university's telephone system does not allow a queue to be set up and there is no busy signal if all lines are busy. So if no one answers, all employees may be on the line, it is best to try several times. We apologise for any waiting times).
Admission notifications are generated every working day in the morning by the Student Administration Office. As this is not an automated process, you will not receive a notification automatically and immediately after the status of your application has changed to "admitted".
You will be informed by email when the notification is available.
For example, if you actively accept an offer of admission on Monday at 13:00 or this is automatically converted into an admission, the notification will not be generated until Tuesday morning. The 7-day period does not begin until you have received the letter of admission.

No, this qualification only authorises access to universities of applied sciences.
Studying for vocational qualifications is possible under certain conditions. You can find more information on this under "Studying without an Abitur".
Please always enter the converted grade of your vocational qualification that leads to the university entrance qualification.
