Arrival and Orientation
International exchange students of our partner universities can participate in the orientation weeks which the International Office offers three weeks before the start of the lecture period.
German Intensive Language Course (Optional)
During the orientation weeks, the Goethe Institute offers a three-week German Intensive Course encompassing levels A1 to B2 for interested international exchange students. Students can obtain 6 ECTS for the course if they pass the exam.

Events of the International Office
Info sessions about studying at the University of Bremen, e.g. course selections, modules, ECTS, examinations, how to use Stud.IP. etc. will be offered online before the orientation weeks (via Zoom).
During the orientation weeks the information sessions will be offered face-to-face.
Events of the Erasmus Initiative of the University of Bremen
The Erasmus Initiative of the University of Bremen e.V. is a group of former Erasmus students who organize events for international exchange students both during the orientation weeks and throughout the semester.

Welcome Desk
At the Welcome Desk during the orientation weeks, the tutors of the Newcomer Service Team will be happy to answer any questions you may have regarding the start of your studies at the University of Bremen. They will provide advice and information on the semester ticket, the ERASMUS certificate of arrival, registration forms, etc. Please have a passport photo available for the semester ticket.
Semester documents
After uploading all required documents in MOIN, paying the semester contribution , sending the "acceptance of a study place" to the Student Office and initiating validation of your health insurance (ESMV), the semester documents (confirmation of enrollment, semester ticket, student ID) will be issued and sent to the address that you entered in MOIN in the section "postal address"

City registration
All students must register their address at the municipal office in Bremen ("Bürgeramt") within two weeks after moving into a flat or room in Bremen.
Required documents for the registration:
- Scan of passport or ID card;
- Form "Anmeldung bei der Meldebehörde" (Application form for single persons, Application form for families)
- Form "Wohnungsgeberbescheinigung" (Housing certificate)
Fill the form "Anmeldung bei der Meldebehörde" and sign it.
The "Wohnungsgeberbescheinigung" has to be signed by your lessor (landlord/landlady).
Send the scans of the documents by email to "bscmitte@buergeramt.bremen.de" and arrange for an appointment at the Bürgeramt for collecting your "Meldebestätigung" (confirmation of your registration). You may also arrange your appointment by phone: +49-(0)421-115.

The city registration ("Meldebestätigung") is required to apply for a library card or to open a bank account, among other things.

Non EU-citizens
If you do not need a visa to enter Germany and if footnote 3 in the list of the Federal Foreign Office applies to you (e.g. citizens of US, Japan, South Korea, UK etc), you have to apply for a residence permit within 90 days after arrival in Germany at the Migration Office in Bremen (BSU).
Required documents:
- Signed application form (application form)
- Registration confirmation from the municipal office ("Meldebestätigung") or “Wohnungsgeberbescheinigung”
- Copy of passport or ID card with valid stamp of entry into Germany
- Proof of health insurance
- Enrollment confirmation from the University of Bremen
- Passport photo
- Proof of financing (minimum 934,- Euro per month)

If you need to apply for an extension of your study visa for Bremen you have to submit the same documents to the Migration Office.
Please apply 4-6 weeks before the expiration date of your current study visa.
