The following topics will be discussed at the symposium over the next three days in plenary lectures and poster sessions:
- Decoding of environmental signals from past warm climate conditions
- Marine ecosystems: Interrelations to environmental conditions and biogeochemical processes
- Causes and impacts of disturbances in the climate-carbon cycle
The focus is on discussion and exchange at a specialist level. The invited participants are renowned national and international experts and early-career researchers. Together with participants from Bremen, Bremerhaven, and Oldenburg, they will discuss topics such as the detailed decoding of past epochs in the Earth's history, as well as analysis methods and new approaches to their work.
The international Ocean Floor Symposium series is organized every two years by MARUM – Center for Marine Environmental Research as part of the "The Ocean Floor – Earth's Uncharted Interface" Cluster of Excellence. The symposia offer a special platform for the exchange and discussion of scientific findings concerning processes on the ocean floor, which is an important, dynamic interface with far-reaching functions for the entire Earth system. This is the second Ocean Floor Symposium. The first was dedicated to "Understanding Element Fluxes – Processes and Budgets" in 2022.
