We hereby inform you about the processing of your personal data by the University of Bremen.
The University of Bremen collects and processes personal data for the realization of various offers and services. It is a public corporation and is subject to the regulations of the European Data Protection Regulation (DS-GVO) and the Bremen Implementation Act.

2. Purpose of Data Processing
Your data will be used solely for the purpose of a research database creation of research projects relevant under the Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilization to the Convention on Biological Diversity (hereinafter referred to as the Nagoya Protocol) and Regulation (EU) No. 511/2014 (hereinafter referred to as the EU ABS Regulation).
The purpose of retrieving and storing the data in a database is to facilitate your documentation of research project data covered by the Nagoya Protocol as well as the EU ABS Regulation.
Your contact data will only be used by the Nagoya Protocol Compliance Officer
for inquiries about the research project itself and for communication in case of an inspection by the competent national authority, the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (Bundesamt für Naturschutz – BfN) (and forwarded to the BfN in this context, if necessary).
3. Legal Basis of the Data Processing
The legal basis is your consent in accordance with Art. 6(1)(a) of the DS-GVO.
4. Obligation to Provision
Since the University of Bremen, as a legal entity where research on genetic resources is conducted, is a "user" in the sense of the EU ABS Regulation and the Nagoya Protocol, the management level of the University is also responsible for compliance with the ABS requirements. Therefore, the University of Bremen reserves the right to create a database of all research projects that fall under the Nagoya Protocol and the EU ABS Regulation.
Researchers must document all information on research projects covered by the Nagoya Protocol and the EU ABS Regulation as part of their "obligation to keep all relevant documents for 20 years after the end of the period of use" according to Art. 4 (6) of Regulation (EU) No. 511/2014. They are therefore encouraged to also provide the research project data to the University of Bremen for central documentation.
5. Revocability of Consent
You may revoke your consent to the processing of the collected data pursuant to Art. 6(1)(a) DS-GVO as soon as it is no longer necessary for the purpose for which it was collected. This is the case 20 years after the end of the period of use.
In this case, we will no longer process this data and will delete this data, insofar as no further legal retention periods prevent deletion. The legality of the data processing until the revocation is not affected by this.
6. Duration of Storage
The project data of research projects of the University of Bremen, which fall under the Nagoya Protocol as well as the EU ABS Regulation, must be stored for 20 years after the end of the period of use, according to European case law.

- Contact persons of the cooperating partners in the country of provision of the genetic resource in this project (institution, name, e-mail address) (optional information)
8. Recipients of the Personal Data
Your research project and contact data will only be transferred to the Nagoya Protocol Compliance Officer of the Unit for Research and Early-Career Researchers (Unit 12) and in case of an inspection by the BfN to the responsible staff members.
9. Your Rights
You have the following rights regarding your personal data (according to Articles 15 to 21 DS-GVO):
- Right to information
- Right to correction
- Right to deletion
- Right to restriction of processing
- Right to data portability / right to receive a copy
In addition, you have the right to object to data processing at any time. We will then no longer process your data, unless there are compelling reasons for the processing worthy of protection or the processing serves the assertion, exercise or defense of legal claims.
10. Right of complaint to a Supervisory Authority.
