How can we establish a welcoming culture for international students? How can universities support their academic success? And how can universities and immigration offices work well together? These and other questions were addressed in numerous panel discussions, world cafés, and workshops, in which participants talked about their experiences from working at the various international offices. “Working on behalf of and with the target group of international students is more important than ever for universities in Germany today. Universities are places of open dialog and intercultural encounters. The perspectives offered by international students are enormously valuable. Not only do they enhance the skills of all university members, but they also help us to prepare our students for work and life in the global community,” said Professor Michal Kucera, Vice President for Research and Transfer.
The University of Bremen Is Home to Students From 115 Countries
International students at the University of Bremen represent around 18 percent of all students, which puts the university above the national average. They come from 115 countries. Students from India, Bangladesh, Turkey, and China are represented the most. In addition to thirteen international university groups, the International Office's kompass team and the Newcomer Service for exchange students are among the most important services and contact points for international students. Every two years, the university celebrates International Campus Day, which highlights the international, multi-collective life at the University of Bremen. For over ten years, International Campus Day has also addressed crosscutting university issues – such as sustainability – and incorporated them into the event concept. This year, the event will take place on June 27.
