Master of Ecology

Welcome to the Master of Ecology!

  • Studierende sammeln Insekten

    Students taking insect samples

In order to find out how insect diversity is related to plant diversity, students collect insects in defined and well-characterised plots using a modified leaf vacuum.

Why should you study Ecology in Bremen?

You are interested in the complexity of the ecological interactions that determine our environment and sustainable well-being? As an ecology student in Bremen, you will be warmly welcomed right from the start as part of an international research group at the Institute of Ecology. We have flat hierarchies, approachable instructors and offer an individual mentoring programme that helps you prepare for roles in science, practice, politics, consulting and more. You will develop the confidence and knowledge to adapt to a global labour market and changing environment.

You will be in a dynamic and stimulating teaching environment, with modern lab facilities, up-to-date equipment and highly qualified and motivated staff. To become a leading ecologist of the future, we will equip you with the practical skills and theoretical knowledge required to investigate and tackle important ecological problems ranging from microscopic species interactions to the sustainability of ecosystem services. With training in core areas such as biodiversity dynamics, data analysis and scientific communication, you will learn to investigate how current and emerging environmental changes affect populations and species communities. You will develop the skills necessary to address threats to biodiversity with effective and quantifiable solutions.

You combine the core topics of our programme with optional modules, including bioinformatics, ecotoxicology, entomology, and field trips. Diverse research project and MSc thesis options give you the freedom to tailor your studies to your interests and career aspirations.
