A good supervisory relationship is the foundation of a successful doctorate. Usually, supervision is a bilateral partnership by doctoral candidates and supervisors. Entangled relationships, e.g., when the supervisor is also the boss, or the PhD is guiding students or culturally different expectations influence the quality of supervision.

The aim of this workshop is to learn how to conduct goal-oriented conversations in supervision and leadership situations. The training of conversational techniques will be one asset. Additionally, clarity for academically and culturally diverse expectations during PhD research will be another focus. This includes reflecting on understanding of individual roles. In addition, desired forms of cooperation and clarification of one's own expectations are discussed.

Building on this, we jointly work out how personal expectations can be communicated to supervisors and how supervision situations can be actively shaped.
