New Project: Less Food Waste during Storage

Reducing spoilage of fresh foods such as apples during storage is the goal of a new project by the Institute for Microsensors, -actuators and -systems of the University of Bremen and the Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Engineering and Bioeconomy (ATB) in Potsdam. The project will be supported with 600,000 euros until 2026.

As part of the MOSAiC Expedition Dr. Gunnar Spreen, the leader of the Remote Sensing of Polar Regions working group at the IUP of Faculty 1, and many other scientists are on their way to the Arctic with the research vessel Polarstern. By mid-December, Spreen and his team will collect data on ice thickness, snow characteristics and much more, which will then be compared with the measurements that they have been taking for several years via satellites.
