The IPMI participates in the book project Innovations and Innovation Management in Health Care with its contribution on patent-based exploration of developments in digitisation in the field of medical technology. This contribution by Ms Eilers takes the opportunities and risks of digitisation as an impulse to examine the innovation paths and developments of digitisation in medical technology. For this purpose, patent analyses are used which have already been used to examine the movements of other technologies. This is done by means of semantic similarities in patents documents, in which an increasing semantic similarity is considered the convergence of technologies. The contribution approaches this issue and identifies semantic similarities between medical technology and digitisation. For this purpose, individual developments are assigned to specific periods and substantive key aspects from data recording to storing and processing are shown. In this way, the method presented can be applied to trace the beginning and development paths in order to derive implications for theory and practice.
