University of Bremen Once Again Ranked Among the 50 Best Young Universities Worldwide

The University of Bremen performs outstandingly in the new university rankings published by the renowned science magazine Times Higher Education (THE). In the list of the 200 best young universities worldwide, Bremen is ranked in position 41, placing it firmly in the international top 50. The Young University Ranking 2017 draws comparisons between top-ranking universities founded less than fifty years ago. Compared with the previous year, when it was on place 49, the University of Bremen has moved up another 8 notches.

Seven German universities made it into the top group

A total of eleven German universities made it into the international rankings of 200, of which seven young German universities are in the top 50, with Bremen following the University of Bayreuth and coming in front of the University of Dortmund. In international comparison, Bremen lies between the French Centrale Supelec and the University of Bozen.

Excellent education and high international reputation

The rankings are produced annually by the London science magazine Times Higher Education. They are based on the evaluation of 13 indicators divided into five categories: The quality of education, research, and the citation frequency of university members, as well as international reputation and the acquisition of third-party funding from industry. The aim is to facilitate comparison between international rankings of higher educational institutions in the category “young university” and to illustrate their performance in respect of age and available resources. Bremen scores with the quality of education, international reputation, and number of citations. On hearing the news, the President of the University of Bremen, Professor Bernd Scholz-Reiter, commented: “It is particularly gratifying that we were able to perform so well in these categories.”
