In addition to their scientific education, we support doctoral candidates in acquiring the skills and competencies they need for the successful completion of their doctorate and for later management tasks in science or industry.

Registration for the MAPEX Doctoral Qualification Programme

All doctoral candidates of the University of Bremen working in a group of a MAPEX member can participate in the programme (register).

As a member of the MAPEX Doctoral Qualification Programme you will

receive a certified transcript of your achieved qualification milestones.

receive individual consulting and support.

participate in MAPEX qualification offers and courses.

have access to MAPEX funding* for

  • scientific workshops,

  • research exchanges,

  • explorative projects.

* Formal acceptance as a doctoral candidate by your faculty is a prerequisite for the access to MAPEX funding

Areas of qualification

In order to enable doctoral candidates to pursue comprehensive personal and professional development, the MAPEX qualification programme proposes its members to acquire milestones within five central qualification areas.

A checklist with all (elective) qualification milestones is provided as a guide to doctoral candidates and their supervisors.


Documentation of qualifications achieved

If you are a member of our programme, all qualifications achieved can be recorded online via input mask.

We keep an overview of the qualifications acquired by each member. Upon request, a transcript of records and a certificate of participation to the MAPEX Doctoral Qualification Programme can be obtained via mapexphdprotect me ?!uni-bremenprotect me ?!.de at any time.

Cooperation MAPEX / YUFE Pilot Programme on Doctoral Learning

Extend your opportunities with the European-wide YUFE Programme on Doctoral Learning

As a member of the MAPEX qualification programme, you benefit from access to the YUFE Pilot Programme on Doctoral Learning.


During the period from May 2024 to October 2025, a series of internationally organised training events on transdisciplinary and non-discipline specific topics and areas of expertise will be offered, which are available to participants of the MAPEX Doctoral Qualification Programme.

There are also various opportunities for international, Europe-wide networking with early career researchers and doctoral candidates from the partner universities participating on the pilot programme (Nicolaus Copernicus University; University of Antwerp; University of Eastern Finland; University of Essex; University of Rijeka;University of Sorbonne Nouvelle).
