Prof. Dr.-Ing. Lucio Colombi Ciacchi, Professor at the Faculty of Production Engineering since 2008
"My vision is the University of Bremen as a space of exploration. Exploration of the deep seas; exploration of the universe; exploration of the human being."
Lucio Colombi Ciacchi has never regretted his decision in 2008 to follow the call to the Faculty of Production Engineering at the University of Bremen. On the contrary: he is proud to be part of a team that is always taking on new challenges in research and teaching in order to "attract new young people to Bremen". What appeals to him most about his work is the variety of tasks: From teaching in his field (Hybrid Materials Interfaces) to working in the MAPEX Center for Materials and Processes and coordinating the Master's programme ProMat (Process-Oriented Materials Research) to his own research projects and working in international collaborations, the spectrum ranges: "Sometimes it can be exhausting, but how bad would it be if you had no task at all?"
At the University of Bremen, he appreciates its location as a campus university ("all areas united in the same place"), its proximity to nature, the many green spaces - all of this reinforces the feeling of being together, of working together. "Admittedly, one or the other building needs a thorough renovation - but that's just normal when you turn fifty."
For the University of Bremen in 50 years' time, he would like to see two things: in the first vision, he dreams of the integration of the individual subjects and the development of cross-disciplinary initiatives, supported by new technical, social, economic, legal and humanistic perspectives. The second vision is the bundling of all Bremen's universities under a single roof. Abolishing the administrative boundaries among the universities and harmonising their academic apparatus for joint implementation of diverse research programmes and teaching offers across all locations.
