The 24th Academic Senate of the University of Bremen was constituted on 13th July 2011. This is the highest self-administration body, responsible for all fundamental decisions to do with the University’s development. The 22 AS members comprise twelve professors, four students, four representatives drawn from the non-professorial teaching staff, and two representatives from the administration and technical support staff.
The President of the University chairs meetings of the Academic Senate but is not entitled to vote. The new AS will soon have to reach a particularly important decision: This year it has to elect a successor for the President of the University, Professor Wilfried Müller, whose term of office will expire in August 2012 after ten successful years.
