The University of Bremen is strengthening its cooperation with universities in Russia. The latest step in this direction was taken right at the end of 2012 when Prof.Christoph Auffarth, Dean of the University of Bremen’s Faculty of Cultural Studies, concluded a cooperation agreement with the Department of Philosophy and Cultural Studies of the University of Rostov-on-Don. The agreement paves the way for joint projects in the areas of research and teaching in cultural studies and will lead to the mutual exchange of students and faculty. Recent rankings compiled for the Russian Federation place the University of Rostov among the country’s top ten universities and it accordingly receives excellence funding.
Much of the groundwork for future cooperation was laid during an intensive workshop organized by the Faculty of Cultural Studies in October 2012, when a delegation from Russia held a week of discussions here in Bremen. The University of Bremen was represented by Prof. Dorle Dracklé, Director of the University of Bremen’s Institute of Ethnology and Cultural Studies. The initial contacts were arranged by Fritz Frey, a lecturer at the University of Bremen and the Faculty of Cultural Studies’ appointee for Eastern European affairs. The new cooperation is also supported by the International Office of the University of Bremen.
