Data Stewardship Goes Germany 2023

At the start of the coming week (25.-26.09.) the workshop Data Stewardship Goes Germany is going to take place for the second time. The workshop aims at promoting the exchange among members of the RDM community. Data steward Dr. Sandra Zänkert will represent the Data Science Center at the event.

In the upcoming week, data stewards, data experts, data curators, and data managers will come together for the Data Stewardship Goes Germany workshop in Dresden to discuss topics and experiences in the field of research data management (RDM). The two-day event will take place at the Open Science Lab of the Saxon State and University Library Dresden (SLUB) which was newly opened last November.

This year, the focus of the workshop will lie on the concept of data stewardship and related ideas, challenges, and solutions. More and more institutions rely on data stewards to develop and build efficient RDM infrastructures, give advice to scientists, and create more awareness for the topic of research data management. As the concept of data stewards is still relatively new, the upcoming workshop will give participants the opportunity to network and exchange ideas surrounding the evolving field of data stewardship.

The workshop’s programme includes different presentations from experts in the field of RDM. The event will be opened with the keynote speech “DataStew: Recommendations for supporting research through data stewardship in academic research institutions” given by Jens Dierkes (Cologne University and City Library). Moreover, the program includes a variety of interactive formats. These include, for example, a BarCamp discussion. This session is going to build on the results of the DataStew project presented in the keynote, to spark further discussions about the implementation of data stewardship at research institutions and universities.

During the upcoming workshop, data steward Dr. Sandra Zänkert is going to represent the DSC. On Monday afternoon (3:30 pm) Sandra will participate in one of the workshop’s poster sessions where she is going to present her poster “Establishing Discipline-Specific Data Stewardship at the Data Science Center at the University of Bremen – One Year Review”. Her contribution will give an overview of the different aims, tasks, and activities of the DSC data stewards during their first year at the Data Science Center. The poster session will serve as an event which allows data stewards to share and exchange their experiences.
