"Fellow" in Elite International Academy

Yet another accolade for the University of Bremen: Bernd Scholz-Reiter, Professor of Production Engineering, has been accepted into the ranks of the International Academy of Production Technology: he is the fourth Bremen researcher to receive this great honor. You do not simply become a member of this elite international body, you have to be invited – and first you have to prove yourself as an associate member. Only leading personalities of high reputation in the field of research and development can receive this coveted honor. Not until one has a gained a record of commitment over many years in the CIRP and passed through a complicated election procedure is it possible to have the honor of being invited to become a full member (Fellow).

This means that a total of four Bremen researchers now number among the 20-strong German delegation: Professor Scholz-Reiter joins Professor Ekkard Brinksmeier (manufacturing processes), Professor Gert Goch (metrology, automation, and quality science), and Professor Frank Vollertsen (laser and forming technology/welding and related processes) as a full member of this influential group of experts. The Bremen researchers therefore constitute the largest group of any university represented in the CIRP. They all lead renowned German research institutes and they all belong to the Faculty of Production Engineering at the University of Bremen.

Professor Bernd Scholz-Reiter leads the subject area of Planning and Control of Production Systems in the Faculty of Production Engineering (Mechanical Engineering and Process Engineering) at the University of Bremen and is Managing Director of the Bremen Institute of Industrial Technology and Applied Work Science at the University of Bremen. He is lead scientist of Collaborative Research center 637 of the German Research Foundation (DFG) "Autonomous Logistics Processes – A Paradigm Change and its Limitations", the International Graduate School for Dynamics in Logistics, and the Bremen Research Cluster for Dynamics in Logistics. He was elected Vice-President of the DFG in 2007 and 2010. He is editor of several journals and an active member of a number of academies and societies.

the CIRP (Collège International pour la Recherche en Productique) is located in Paris. It is a global science academy comprising a select circle of top-notch production engineers from the world’s leading industrial nations. The number of members is strictly limited, all told as well as per nation. Only 170 Fellows from 40 countries belong to the CIRP.
