On Wednesday 18th May 2011 the University of Bremen is once again organizing an open day for prospective students. What earth scientists do, which languages are spoken in Europe, the career prospects open to political scientists, and the different subjects offered in teacher training at the University of Bremen – these are just some of the things visitors can learn more about between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. at the various events that will be taking place on the campus.
During the morning, representatives of over 70 different degree courses will present the content of their programs and talk about conditions of studying, study schedules and subsequent career opportunities. There will also be a number of lectures to choose from. For instance, the Law Faculty is holding a lecture entitled “Facebook, spickmich and ebay”. All events will be held in German.
In future there will be a number of changes for new students. Compared to the previous year, for example, in many cases changes have been made to admission requirements and procedures. The structure of joint-degree courses, both with and without teaching qualification, has been changed, as well as the possible combination of subjects: Communication and Media Studies is new, as well as the possibility to study Pedagogy and Educational Sciences outside teacher training and in combination with another subject. Cross-departmental presentations will deal with changes to admission procedures and the restructuring of the Bachelor programs.
A good place to start is the information booth in the Glass Entrance Hall run by the Central Student Advisory Bureau. Here, visitors will be able to get initial information on degree courses offered at the University of Bremen, learn more about what is happening at the open day, and inquire where to go to find what they are looking for. Competent persons will be available to answer questions on numerous other booths run by the various departments and service providers.
