Publication on New Work and Informal Learning

How is new work related to informal workplace learning? Dr. Julian Decius investigated this question together with Prof. Dr. Carolin Graßmann from VICTORIA International University of Applied Sciences (Berlin). Based on data from almost 300 participants and using relative importance analysis, the researchers found that (in this order) the New Work characteristics of relevance of work, participation, and dissolution of boundaries between work and private life appeared to be most strongly associated with informal learning. Contrary to the assumption, the strength of these relationships was not influenced by the learning climate in the organization. The results of the study, which was published in the journal "Gruppe Interaktion Organisation" (GIO), are freely available here.
