Back in 2007 he addressed an overcrowded auditorium at the University of Bremen, and now he is coming back: Peter Warren Finlay – better known as DBC Pierre – is returning to the University of Bremen on Thursday 20th January 2011. Starting at 6.15 p.m. the popular English-language author will be in the Hörsaalgebäude on the campus Boulevard, where he will be reading from some of his works.
In 2003 his debut book “Vernon God Little” was awarded the renowned Man Booker prize: it quickly became a bestseller when it was published in Germany in 2004 under the title “Jesus von Texas”. Following this success the author went on a bilingual tour with the actor Jan Josef Liefers. In 2006 DBC Pierre published “Ludmila's Broken English” (German title “Bunny und Blair”). His third book “Lights Out in Wonderland”, which was performed in Berlin and actually contains a reference to the University of Bremen, appeared in September 2010.
DBC Pierre will read passages from all three books. There will also be an opportunity for students and guests to put their questions. Born in Australia in 1961, DBC Pierre was raised in Mexico and England. He now lives in Ireland. DBC, by the way, stands for Dirty But Clean and was chosen because of Pierre’s colorful past. The public reading session will be moderated by Ian Watson and entry is free of charge.
