Dr. Carina Schmitt from the Center for Social Policy has received a very special honor from Harvard University in Cambridge, USA: The John F. Kennedy Memorial Fellowship 2013/2014. This September she will take up a ten-month research fellowship at the Minda de Gunzburg Center for European Studies, funded with a scholarship worth 60,000 US dollars.
Carina Schmitt is one of two winners selected from the 19 applicants who responded to the competitive call.
Earlier this year, the 32-year-old submitted her post-doctoral dissertation on the topic “The Convergence and Diffusion of Social and Economic Policy in Advanced Democracies”. She first studied Political Science and History before obtaining her doctorate entitled “An international comparison of privatizations of public utilities” [Die Privatisierung öffentlicher Dienstleistungen im internationalen Vergleich] from the University of Mannheim in 2011
During her stay at Harvard University‘s Center for European Studies she will be working on her new research project, which is a study on the development of labor policy in Europe. Since January 2012, Dr. Carina Schmitt has been working as a research assistant (post doc) at the University of Bremen’s Center for Social Policy. Before that, between 2008 and 2011 she was involved in the Collaborative Research Center “Transformations of the State”.
