The sciences and engineering, mathematics, languages and the humanities – with more than 100 degree courses to choose from, you can study almost anything you want at the University of Bremen, including teacher training. For the first time, applications for Bachelor studies and the first state examination in law will be handled via Dialogorientierte Serviceverfahren (DoSV) [The dialogue orientated service procedure] administrated by the Stiftung für Hochschulzulassung under www.hochschulstart.de.
More transparency
Together with some 50 other universities all over Germany, this year the University of Bremen is using the new Hochschulstart platform for allocating university places. The aim is to speed up the admissions procedure and at the same time to make it more transparent for applicants. Due to this system, prospective students are now able to apply for up to twelve different places of study simultaneously, instead of just one before, and to trace the progress of their application in real time online. Once an institution accepts your application, you can respond and immediately request enrolment. “We hope this will end the situation whereby places used to be blocked for other applicants for weeks on end”, says Dr. Stephan Determann from the University of Bremen’s Central Student Advisory Bureau.
Applications hotline
Prospective students have until 15th July 2013 to submit their applications for next winter semester. You can find a list of degree courses, details of admission requirements, and information on the application procedure at www.uni-bremen.de/studienplatz. The University of Bremen has also installed a dedicated hotline. It is open on weekdays between 9.00 a.m. and 1 p.m., phone number +49 421 218-61234.
