What do we understand about how we think?

From 21st October till 4th November 2011 the Center for Cognitive Sciences is holding an exhibition entitled “Mirror Brain”. With a combination of video installations and sculptures, the Viennese artist Elisabeth Weissensteiner inspires visitors to reflect on the complexity of the human brain. “Mirror Brain” is the end result of Elisabeth Weissensteiner’s stay at the Center for Cognitive Sciences, where she has been working closely with researcher Dr. Dorothea Brückner. The exhibition is open to visitors on weekdays 8.00 till 18.00 hrs (Hochschulring 18, 28211 Bremen). Admittance is free.

About “Mirror Brain”

On arrival at the Cognium Building visitors to the exhibition are confronted with a black tent which has been erected in the foyer. Once inside this mobile laboratory, a concave sculpture symbolizing a human brain invites them to take part in an experiment: they can take it in their hands and move it around to capture the images projected onto it. These images are of a complex nature and have to be interpreted. They are not static and can therefore not be held at a fixed point. Other objects are spread around the laboratory. These focus on the shape of the human head as a sculpture bordering cognition and perception, leading the spectator into the mirror cabinet of scientific inquiry.
