Transforming noise action planning into an instrument for more health equity

Description
The overall aim of this project is to develop an evaluation programme that focuses on the effect of noise action planning, a current instrument of environmental planning, on differences in the health opportunities of urban population groups. This evaluation programme is to be based on a model that illuminates mechanisms within and between an individual and an institutional level. At the individual level, psychosocial factors in particular, such as the subjective capacity to influence, reaction and action patterns in the face of chronic noise exposure at the place of residence, and their possible consequences for the participation of potentially vulnerable resident groups in health and planning policy events are to be quantitatively recorded. Such correlations are also to be set in relation to objectively modelled noise levels according to the EU noise maps and other residential contextual exposures.
The study region is the Ruhr area, where an ongoing cohort study provides the data basis for the quantitative analyses at individual level.
This project aims to combine social and environmental epidemiological and planning-related perspectives.
