Description

The focus of this study is the evaluation of the requirements included in the State Treaty on Gambling with regard to player protection. These include general technical requirements as well as requirements relating to forms of gambling that can be permitted on the Internet.

On 01 July 2021, the current State Treaty on Gambling came into force in Germany.  A central innovation is the nationwide legalization of all major forms of internet-based gambling. In order to counter the high risks of addiction associated with these gambling services, player protection on the Internet is given a significant role in the Treaty. What impact will these measures have on gambling activities is to be empirically examined in a differentiated manner. Thereby, possible positive effects as well as possible negative or unexpected side effects are to be scientifically evaluated. The primary goal of this research approach is to determine the added or reduced value of the respective respective measures of the Interstate Gambling Treaty.
