Description

In 2018, the Senate of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen adopted a climate adaptation strategy that provides the long-term framework for the state of Bremen and the two cities of Bremen and Bremerhaven on how to mitigate or limit the climate change consequences. As part of the first update of this climate adaptation strategy, a heat action plan is now being developed for the first time for the state of Bremen and the two cities of Bremen and Bremerhaven. The participatory process of elaboration includes relevant specialized administrations and actors from the fields of health and social affairs.

For the concept development, reference is made to working aids and guidelines for municipal heat action plans as well as to good practice examples from municipalities in Germany. Special emphasis is placed on the consideration of vulnerable groups and urban areas, especially with regard to social inequalities. Indicators and measures will be developed in relation to the three strategies of risk communication, management of acute events and long-term measures of climate-adapted urban development.
