Integrated approaches to urban renewal, both top-down and bottom-up, have the potential to change living conditions and lifestyles in ways that promote health, thereby reducing social inequalities in health while contributing to climate and environmental protection.

The aim of the concept development phase of the project SalusTransform is the participatory development of an evaluation concept from a public health and sustainability perspective for measures from integrated urban development concepts as well as activities of co-productive city making.

For this purpose, measures in the three cities of Bremen, Bochum and Wuppertal will be selected and a methodology for a context-specific, outcome-oriented evaluation, will be developed, which will be based on logic models of the selected measures that enable a systems science perspective. The evaluation concept should combine evidence on health, ecological sustainability and social justice and be acceptable and practicable in a community context.

In the development of the evaluation concept, the focus is on a close exchange and active involvement of both administration and practice actors as well as residents in the respective study areas (Bremen, Bochum, Wuppertal).

The realization phase of the project SalusTransform, i.e. the implementation of the evaluation of the effectiveness of urban development measures, is targeted for 2024.

The IPP coordinates the research network, in which the Hochschule für Gesundheit Bochum - University of Applied Sciences, the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy, and the Landesvereinigung für Gesundheit Niedersachsen Bremen are involved as cooperation partners.
