Since 2016, he has strengthened the LEMEX team in research, teaching and the chair's practice transfer activities.
- His research interests lie in the areas of Entrepreneurial Ecosystems, Rural Entrepreneurship, Migrant Entrepreneurship and Entrepreneurship Support in a conceptual and empirical way. In 2020, Thomas received his doctorate with his dissertation on "Exploring the Idiosyncratic Nature of Entrepreneurial Ecosystems".
- In teaching, Thomas offers research and practical seminars, especially in the Master's program, and supervises students in the preparation of their Bachelor's and Master's theses.
- Thomas is involved in the chair's transfer activities. He is part of the European research project Inno-Quarter, a member of the Bremen working groups "Startups & Innovations" and "Migration Entrepreneurship" as well as the transfer network of the University of Bremen.
