Tango Orchestra
Orquesta no típica / the University of Bremen’s Tango Orchestra
The tango ensemble ‘Orquesta no típica’ was founded in 1999 by Andreas Lieberg. Since 2002 it has been led by native Argentinean Juan María Solare. The orchestra plays traditional and modern tango and milonga music from Argentina and Uruguay.
The ensemble’s name alludes to the orquestas típicas that flourished in Buenos Aires during the 1940s. In those days, the instruments usually comprised four violins, a viola, a cello, a double bass, four bandoneons, and a piano. However, the musicians who play in the University of Bremen’s 'Orquesta NO típica' are free to choose their instruments, and (almost) every instrument is welcome to participate.
Rehearsals: During the semester, Mondays 12.00 p.m. till 2.00 p.m. in the Theatersaal at the University of Bremen
