With the workshop "From C-3PO to HAL" at the ACM CUI 2023 conference some of our colleages tackle the discourse about "the dark side of multi-modal social agents":

As these agents are more and more integrated in our daily routines and while creating emotional bonds with them, the number of questions relating to human-agent communication grows, e.g.: How do humans relate to artificial entities that are acknowledged the position of social agent? How can we then identify malicious design strategies in these agents – often called dark patterns? What is the necessity for and the effects of present and future design features, across different modalities and social contexts, in social agents?
