Katharina Baumann
Katharina Baumann, Building cleaner at the University of Bremen since 2010
Since 2010, Katharina Baumann has been responsible for cleaning the SFG (that's the abbreviation for the strange building name "Seminar und Forschungsverfügungsgebäude" in Enrique-Schmidt-Straße). Twice a day she makes sure that the offices, corridors, sanitary rooms, the stairs and the restaurant "Unique" are always in immaculate condition. She loves her work, only sometimes she wishes that the waste was better separated by the staff - that would make a lot of things easier for her. So she sometimes leaves little notes in the offices with the politely worded request: "Remember not to throw the waste paper in the residual waste."
Fifty years ago, she still went to school in a small village in Kazakhstan. There, she loved to play with her five siblings in a large garden where many different animals lived. She came to Germany in 1996 and now lives with her family in Bremen. When she cooks, she always cooks for her children and relatives: Be it the delicious dumplings like Mänti or Pelmeni or the home-grown vermicelli Laghman, and of course desserts.
What does she like about the University of Bremen? "The nice people!
