Prof. Dr. Elda Miramontes García, Junior Professor in the Faculty of Geosciences | FB5 since June 2019
"The University of Bremen is young and dynamic."
When Elda Miramontes García applied for the assistant professorship in Sedimentology (Faculty of Earth Sciences) in 2019, she was particularly attracted by the international reputation of marine science research at the University of Bremen. The fact that she was also drawn to northern Germany for private reasons supported her decision to choose Bremen as her new home. A decision she has not regretted to this day. She publishes, teaches and researches on the topics of deep-sea sediments and ocean currents, which means in concrete terms: Prof. Miramontes García teaches Bachelor's or Master's students in the Geosciences and Marine Geosciences degree programmes, is a dedicated supervisor of their final theses and doctoral dissertations, develops new projects in international working groups, publishes the results of her research both in scientific journals and in popular science form on social media or traditional media, and takes part in oceanographic expeditions. Personally, she not only finds the deep sea exciting, but is looking forward to getting to know the German coast underwater by diving after the Corona pandemic.
She imagines the University of Bremen in 50 years to be "much more international and interdisciplinary. Probably the division of departments will be completely different in 50 years: no longer divided into subjects, but broken down into themes."
