Our 17th general meeting, live and on-site
The alumni association is growing – not rapidly but steadily, with more than 4,000 members now registered. About 45 alumni gathered at the new Fraunhofer Institute MEVIS for a remarkably harmonious general meeting, where they elected a new board and then witnessed a fascinating introduction to the work going on at MEVIS.
In 2022, a year after the university's 50th anniversary, there were a number of well-attended in-person and online events, and for the first time in three years, an excursion to Berlin – all high points in the all-round positive annual report presented by Deputy Chair Ute Treptow on behalf of the board. Around 20,000 euros in funding were awarded last year, including for alumni work in various faculties, for the Campus Award, for the theatre project "From the files to the stage", which continues to be very successful, and for the even more successful B-Human team of football-playing robots from Bremen, which by now seems to have practically a standing order for the world champion trophy.
A highlight of this past year was undoubtedly the discussion event "Putin's War on Ukraine", organised jointly with the Bremen Parliament, which took place as part of Bremen's Europe Week. On the alumni association's YouTube channel, the recording of the event and interviews with Bremen-based historian Prof Wolfgang Eichwede have been viewed nearly 50,000 times.
Also on the agenda at this year’s general meeting: electing a new board. The members of the previous board – Dr Reinhard Ahlers, Renate Heitmann, Dr Tim Nesemann, Ute Treptow and Dr Katerina Vatsella – stood for another four years. The new candidates were Martin Foth, Dr Annette Lang and Predrag Tapavicki. All candidates were elected with an overwhelming majority and will be presented in more detail in our association's communications in the coming months. The general meeting was rounded off by a lecture and a get-together in the elegant rooms at MEVIS.
