KI_Café - AI in production
Introduction of decision-supporting AI systems in production (AI_Café)
Funding code: EXP.01.00003.20
Duration: 01.10.2020 - 31.03.2024
Project description
When introducing a disruptive technology such as artificial intelligence (AI) in a company, it is important to involve employees from the very beginning and to discuss the opportunities and risks of the technology in detail. Traditional means of communication, such as information brochures, works meetings and e-mail newsletters, are not suitable for this purpose, as they only allow limited feedback and often present employees with a fait accompli.
In the project AI_Café a novel introduction strategy is tested, which offers comprehensive information and discussion possibilities for all participants as well as the development and testing of a concrete AI system. For this purpose, a requirements definition, system development and practical implementation of an AI-based assistance system in cooperation with industrial project partners are complemented by recurring public information exhibitions, the AI_Café.
The Bremen Institute for Mechanical Engineering at the University of Bremen develops and implements a novel, AI-based assistance system for the assessment of the cutting quality of milling tools, together with two partners from the manufacturing industry. This will make it easier for the employees to assess the condition of a tool and thus contribute to a relief of the tool pre-setting.
During the development process, all corporate levels from machine operators to managers will be involved in order to include individual requirements for the assistance system and to create an early understanding of how the AI system works. Accompanying this, various exhibits relating to AI and the current development status of the new innovative assessment system will be on display at the AI_Café. All employees of the participating companies are invited to try out the exhibits and discuss questions and ideas with the researchers, developers and employee representatives.
The Bremen Institute for Structural Mechanics and Production Systems at the University of Bremen, together with two application partners from the manufacturing industry, is developing and implementing a novel, AI-based system for assessing the cutting edge quality of milling tools. This will enable the employees at the milling machines to independently assess the condition of a tool and thus contribute to relieving the burden of tool presetting.
All levels, from the machine operators to the managers, will be involved in the development in order to map the individual needs of the device and to create an understanding of how the AI system works at an early stage. Accompanying this, various exhibits on the topic of AI and the current development status of the new cutting edge measuring system will be on display in the KI_Café. All employees of the participating companies are invited to try out the exhibits and discuss questions and ideas with the researchers, developers and employee representatives present.
