    Organising neurons in microfluidic devices

Culture platforms like microfluidic devices allow the organisation of neurons in culture, highlighting the distances single neurons can span within the body.

Welcome to the cell biology lab!

We are enthusiastic about nerve cells. The human brain has around 85 billion nerve cells, wonderfully diverse in function and appearance, which are linked by trillions of synaptic connections. This complex structure enables us to form thoughts, emotions and memories. The adaptation of connections, called neuroplasticity, allows us to integrate new information and learn new skills throughout our lives.

Our main goal is to understand how neurons maintain themselves throughout our lives. To this end, we study the cellular and molecular changes that underlie neuronal plasticity in health and neurodegeneration.
