Your tasks
- Develop, test, benchmark, and apply technologies to take rescue robots from research to deployment in actual disaster operations
- Development and maintenance of DRZ's rescue robots (physical and simulated) , integration and evaluation of new features and interfaces
- Working closely with our network of leading organizations from academia, industry, and rescue organizations, especially in collaborative R&D joint projects
- Analysis of first responder requirements and consideration in the development process
- Operating our rescue robots to support first responders in real-world missions as a member of our Robotics Task Force
- Support the development and implementation of new training and education concepts
- Contribute your creativity and ideas to improve current existing solutions, as well as your vision to develop new solutions
What you should have
- A graduate master's degree in computer science, technical computer science, or a comparable field of study
- Very good programming skills with experience in working with Linux, ROS, C++ and Python, version management (e.g. Git) and with the development of extensive program packages
- Knowledge of methods, algorithms and technologies for mobile robots with autonomous capabilities
- Demonstrated experience developing and working with real-world mobile robot systems (ground, air, or water)
- Ability to work independently, as well as in a team
- Reliability and conscientiousness
- Flexibility and confidence in dealing with unforeseen situations and quick thinking skills
- Very good problem solving skills
- Secure knowledge of German and English
- Willingness to relocate to Dortmund and travel with us on real missions (outside the danger zone)
This would be considered desired
- Superior knowledge and skills in mobile robotics in outdoor environments and related autonomous capabilities and software
- Experience developing and maintaining complex heterogeneous software and hardware systems
- Experience with continuous testing and agile methodology
- Operational experience as a responder in a volunteer or professional capacity (e.g., as a member of a fire department or technical relief organization) and knowledge of civil security first responder procedures and frameworks
