S03 - Thermal Management

Aim of the subproject S03 of the SFB 1232 is the determination of thermal management models for the controlled synthesis of microstructures in metallic materials. Particularly during solidification from the melt and heat treatment, specific microstructures are formed in a metallic material which are substantially determined by the alloy composition and the cooling conditions. To achieve defined microstrucutures in the micro and macro samples produced by the subprojects U01, U02, S01, S02 and U03, a thermal analysis of these processes is conducted. By numerical simulation the coupled thermal history and microstructural evolution is estimated to derive the thermal management module.
