Pornography aims at sexual stimulation of the viewers. Artistic and experimental film follows a different concept when showing sexual acts. There may for example be an autobiographical impulse to find pictures to erotic phantasies. But even when showing ordinary sexual intercourse or masturbation the aesthetics of the film will refuse maximal visibility as is requested by pornography. Moreover playful mise-en-scene often confronts normative assumptions about sex and gender conformity.
The programme shows that this transgressive impetus has been part of avantgarde-film history right from the 1940s up to present day queer-activist performances.
The event is part of the lecture series „Critical Porn Studies – Künstlerisch-mediale Positionen und neue Perspektiven“ that investigates artistic and queer-feminist strategies and medial production and reception processes of pornography.
