Kerstin Schill
Professor for Computer Science
Professor Kerstin Schill is a Senate member of the German Research Foundation, where she represents computer science for the whole of Germany. She is Dean of her Faculty at the University of Bremen, heads the research group Cognitive Neuroinformatics, and is spokesperson for the high-profile area Minds, Media, Machines. “Exciting jobs that I enjoy doing,” she emphasizes. When in 2003 Kerstin Schill received her appointment, she came from what she calls an anonymous “university giant” in Munich. In Bremen, she experiences a very different situation which she appreciates greatly.
Johannes Schöning
Professor for Computer Science
Following intermediate stops in London and Belgium, the geoinformatics scholar, Johannes Schöning, came to the University of Bremen in 2016, where he established his research group “Human-Machine Interaction” with a Lichtenberg Professorship funded by the Volkswagen Foundation. Among other things, the group explores the interfaces between navigation systems and human orientation. Professor Schöning and his family have settled easily in Bremen. As a passionate mountaineer, though, he sometimes dreams of peaks a little higher than the Weser dike.
