Professor Jürgen Timm
President of the University of Bremen 1982 till 2002
Jürgen Timm was President of the University of Bremen from 1982 until 2002 – a full twenty years. During that time, he made a decisive contribution to developing the reform university into an internationally renowned research university. Timm is a mathematician. His research interest lies in the application of mathematics in medicine. He obtained his doctorate and habilitated at the University of Hamburg. He was appointed as Professor for Applied Statistics in 1971, the year the University of Bremen was founded.
Professor Wilfried Müller
President of the University of Bremen 2002 till 2012
At the end of the 1970s, Wilfried Müller was appointed to the University of Bremen as Professor of Social Scientific Technology Research. Before that he studied and obtained his doctorate in Kiel and Hamburg. From 1997 to 2002, he held the post of Vice President for Teaching and Learning. From 2002, Müller led the University for ten years as its President. He completed his term in 2012 with the University‘s success in the Excellence Initiative. Since his retirement, Müller has been working as a consultant in the field of applied social research and higher education.
Professor Bernd Scholz-Reiter
President of the University of Bremen since 2012
Bernd Scholz-Reiter began his academic career at the Technical University Berlin. In 2000 he moved from the Brandenburg Technical University (BTU) Cottbus to the Faculty of Production Engineering at the University of Bremen. From 2002 to 2012, Scholz-Reiter led the Bremen Institute for Production and Logistics (BIBA) at the University of Bremen. He was Vice President of the German Research Foundation (2007-2011) and spokesman for a Collaborative Research Center. Scholz-Reiter has been University President since 2012. His second term began in 2017.
