"From the files to the stage" in the Bremen Parliament
A full house on 2 March in the Bremen Parliament’s (Bürgerschaft) ceremonial hall – with corona-appropriate distancing – included more than 40 alumni. They were all there to witness a dramatic and thought-provoking reading staged by the bremer shakespeare company: Splendour and Bankruptcy of a Merchant Dynasty (Prunk und Pleite einer Unternehmerdynastie), an instructive play from the Weimar Republic with an entirely contemporary relevance. The play is about the Lahusen family in Delmenhorst and Bremen, the bankruptcy of Nordwolle, and the banking crisis of 1931 – in other words, world history with a connection to Bremen. The play was developed through Uni Bremen's project "From the files to the stage", which the alumni association has supported financially for many years. The occasion for the event, jointly hosted by the Bremen Parliament and our alumni association, was the opening of the Federal Archive's travelling exhibition "History and Memory", which can be seen in the Bremen Bürgerschaft through the beginning of April.
