14th General Meeting: 2019 Was a Good Year for the Association
One more year – until the University of Bremen celebrates its 50th anniversary. “For the Alumni association, it is an excellent opportunity to boost its presence in public and reflect in multiple ways on the past and the future,” said former deputy chair Christoph Sodemann, “when if not now.” Growth targets are connected to this strategy. The plan is to recruit a considerably higher number of members and supporting members. Highlight of the activities for the 50th anniversary could be the two-day reunion right before the OPEN CAMPUS 2021 event – a homecoming for hundreds of alumni to their alma mater and their departments. The association has continued to develop further in 2019 and now has close to 3,500 members, as reported by executive director Derk Schönfeld. The events in our series ‘Networking of, for, and with Alumni’ were particularly successful and always fully booked right after their announcement. Another success story has been the program of the ‘Research Ambassadors.’ Not least because of them, we were able to establish further chapters that complement the growing number of German regional groups.
