DAAD-Prize for Outstanding Achievements

Portrait von Sanaz Sadat Afzali

This year’s DAAD prize for outstanding achievements of international students studying at German universities goes to Sanaz Sadat Afzali from Iran, student of the Communication and Information Technology Master – who is a real allrounder.

Sanaz Sadat Afzali came to Bremen in 2018 after finishing her bachelor’s degree at the Isfahan University of Technology (Iran). Already in Iran, she was very committed to her studies but also beyond that. And it is the same in Bremen today: She is a student assistant, a tutor, and supports her fellow students in many different ways. Her big passion, however, is music. She plays the piano, composes, sings – among others as a soloist at the university choir – and also teaches. Prof. Anna Förster from Department 1 Physics/Electrical Engineering, who had nominated her for this award, particularly underlined her commitment to the degree program, where she enriches lectures with her music, imparts her culture, and encourages her fellow students to discover new things and surpass oneself – leading by example.

This commitment in combination with excellent academic performance convinced the jury.

Due to Covid-19, she was awarded the DAAD prize on December 10 in front of very few people.
