Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Jochen Zimmermann holds the chair of Business Administration, Accounting and Control at the University of Bremen. His main research topics are International Accounting and the Regulation of Accounting.
After studying Business Administration at the universities of Erlangen-Nuremberg and Mannheim he received his doctoral degree at the University of Mannheim in 1992, followed by his habilitation in 1995. From 1994 to 1998 he worked as Assistant Professor of Accounting at the London Business School.
In 1998 Professor Zimmermann was appointed as University Professor of Business Administration, Accounting and Control at the University of Bremen. Since 2007 he is dean of the faculty of Business Studies and Economics. During his time as professor at the University of Bremen Professor Zimmermann has received three further appointments for professorship at the University Duisburg-Essen, the Heinrich-Heine-University Dusseldorf and the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg. In 2008 Professor Zimmermann received an honorary doctorate from the Tbilisi State University, Georgia, for his commitment in reforming the economic studies.
From 2006 to 2011 he was member of the Versicherungsbeirat der Bundesanstalt für Finanzdienstleistungsaufsicht (BaFin). Furthermore, he is member in various organizations such as the American Accounting Association, the European Accounting Association and the Deutscher Verein für Versicherungswissenschaft. Professor Zimmermann is also member of the Joint Audit Committee for Auditors and Certified Public Accountants of Bremen, Hamburg, Mecklenburg-West Pomerania, Lower Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein.
