Studying abroad
The International Office of FB 08 offers help when preparing your study abroad. Please also contact the persons responsable for cooperation with certain destination countries as well as the Erasmus coordinators of your study programme; they can give you subject specific advice for your programme of studies.
Erasmus Programme
The European Commission funded Erasmus exchange programme enables students from the University of Bremen to spend one or two semesters (depending on the stage of their studies) at one of our Erasmus partner universities.
The easiest way to study at a foreign university for a three to twelve month period is usually through the Erasmus programme. In doing so, you avoid the otherwise mandatory fees and drastically improve your chances of a successful application.
The Faculty 08 International Office advises you with the preparations for your study period abroad. Please contact your study programme's Erasmus coordinator; in doing so you will receive subject-specific information that is relevant to you.
Depending on the country, the available funds and the number of applicants, students receive a grant of several hundreds of euros per month. The mobility grant is paid out to all successful applicants is several installments. A minimum study period of three months and timely application are required for funding.
Foreign funding offices are responsible for "BAföG" recipients' grants. Please consult the University of Bremen student administration's "BAföG" office for further information. The study period abroad is not added to the maximum funding duration unless it mandatory in accordance with study regulations.
The annual application deadline for the Erasmus exchange programme is mid-February (e.g. 15.02.2016). for study periods abroad commencing the following summer or winter semesters. Please consider that at least six months planning and preparation time and individual registration with the partner university are required.
Please consult the foreign language centre and International Office for possible refunds of preparatory language courses after successful completion of the study period abroad. Erasmus+ funds can also be used for intensive language courses prior to the start of term. The International Office is glad to advise you on current regulations.
Partner universities outside the EU or from non-Erasmus countries
The Faculty of Social Sciences works with Universities in a large range of countries with the possibility of student exchange programmes. For further information please consult the information website for each partner university. A PROMOS grant is possible as a means of funding, please consult the International Office for further information. Studying abroad as a "freemover"
If you are planning to study at a University with which we do not have a contractual partnership we may also be able to advise you. In general, you can apply to a foreign university or make use of commercial placement agencies. You will still be able to apple for a PROMOS grant in the Faculty. The procedure for recognition of academic achievement from individually organised study periods abroad is the same as it would be from other universities, with the same study programme examination boards being responsible. To avoid any difficulties with recognition of academic achievement, consultation with the appropriate study programme advisor is highly recommended.

Additional experience reports are available for reading in the Faculty and University International Offices. Please come during consultation hours. We always welcome further student's making their experience reports available to others in electronic form. These can be uploaded in StudIP in "ForumInternation FB08" or sent to the International Office via email.
