Health Care Management
Our Focus
In our department, we investigate how sustainability innovation can be promoted in the healthcare sector and beyond..
In our theoretical research, we currently explore the various research programs of economics from scientific-theoretical and ethical perspectives. For example, we are examining strengths and limitations of information provided by neoclassical, institutional or evolutionary economics regarding the transition to a CO2-neutral healthcare system. In our empirical research, we apply technology assessment methods in health care. Among other things, we are investigating how different dimensions of ecological sustainability, such as the climate footprint, can be integrated into health economic evaluation using life cycle assessment methods.
In our teaching, provide business management and economic knowledge and skills for sustainable innovation, particularly for the public health programs in FB 11. For the Bachelor's program, this includes the course "Management in Health Care," which is accompanied by a case study seminar based on a Springer textbook of the same name. Additionally, we offer an elective focus titled "Planetary Health Economics", where various strategies for addressing the climate crisis are analyzed from economic and ethical perspectives. In the Master's program, we offer the seminar "Health-, Social-, and Eco- Entrepreneurship" for practice-oriented in-depth study. At the same time, we deepen methodological knowledge in these areas, for example in seminars on conducting systematic reviews.
