Over the past three semesters, students on the “Public Health - Healthcare Provision, Economics and Management” Master's degree course have worked together with stakeholders in Bremen's healthcare system on five research projects that addressed real healthcare problems and aimed to develop intervention concepts. On 02.02.2024, the projects and their results were presented at a final symposium in the House of Science.
In addition to the students' presentations, Prof. Dr. Ansgar Gerhardus and Sinah Evers, who supervised the projects on the university side, and the practice partners also gave speeches. After the individual presentations, the audience took the opportunity to ask questions and make comments. There was also a lively exchange between participants during the breaks, accompanied by drinks and snacks.
The research projects presented covered the following topics:
1. coordination of pregnant women with increased care needs: the interactive website “Schwangerenkompass” was designed. (Project partner: Hebammenlandesverband Bremen e.V.)
2. increase in the utilization of U- and J-examinations for hkk-insured children: The intervention developed is an informative personalized reminder letter to the insured. (Project partner hkk)
3. easier access to needle epilation for transgender people: The intervention concept provides for the employment of an electrologist in a dermatology practice. (Project partner: Bremen Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians)
4. dealing with language barriers for non-German-speaking patients in hospital: An extended care pathway shows the use of various tools, including telephone interpreting, as a solution. (Project partner St. Joseph-Stift Bremen)
5. employment of family caregivers: Employment offers opportunities for the financial security of family caregivers as well as for the appreciation and quality assurance of informal care. (Project partner Bremen Chamber of Employees)
