With a new cooperation agreement, the Bremen Public Health Department, headed by Dr. Jörn Moock, and the IPP at the University of Bremen, headed by Prof. Dr. Gabriele Bolte, aim to strengthen cooperation between the two institutions and exploit synergy effects between science and practice. The objectives of the cooperation agreement, which was drawn up under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Ansgar Gerhardus, Head of the Department of Health Services Research at the IPP, and Dr. Jörn Moock, Head of the Bremen Public Health  Department, are based on the Pact for the Public Health Service. For pandemics, but also for other health emergencies, the health authorities should have well-trained and motivated staff at their disposal. The contract is intended to create the opportunity for young scientists in the field of public health at the University of Bremen to obtain practical references to the work of the health authorities and integrate them into their training. Finally, the contract is intended to contribute to the transfer of knowledge between the Bremen health authorities and Bremen public health research.
The cooperation will be concretised in the areas of teaching, personnel exchange, cooperation projects, joint research and evaluation projects as well as in the processing and analysis of data from the public health department.
A first step has been taken in the area of staff exchange: On 15 June 2024, Lizzi Müller genannt Schumacher, took up her position at the Bremen Public Health Department and at the same time as a guest researcher at the IPP. Her research area is the COVID-19 pandemic in inpatient care facilities in Bremen. In addition, she will take on tasks in public health teaching. At the Bremen Public Health Department, she works in Department 33 Communal Health Reporting.

The cooperation agreement between the Bremen Public Health Department and the IPP of the University of Bremen will initially run from 1 January 2024 to 31 December 2026.
