For several years I have worked on volcanoes - from the Central Andes to the Eifel volcanic field in Germany. The focus has been on the pre-eruptive processes and magma storage. The primary method has been a combination of geochemical analyses, high pressure-temperature experiments and numerical modelling.

Now, I am focusing on early earth processes in the Hadean Eon. As part of the PROTOS project, I am using a series of experiments and numerical modelling to figure out specific chemical environments and reactions that favoured the beginning of life. We are specifically interested in the role of silica (SiO2) in those reactions.
