The revised version of the Bremen curriculum is now available

Prof Dr Ingrid Darmann-Finck and Dr Sebastian Partsch (IPP) present the evaluated and updated version of the Bremen curriculum at a symposium.

On 4 December, the evaluated and updated version of the "Bremen Curriculum for Generalist Nursing Training", which is also the binding curriculum in Bremen, was presented by Prof. Dr Ingrid Darmann-Finck and Dr Sebastian Partsch at a specialist conference with around 80 participants in the Haus der Wissenschaft.

The curriculum was developed in 2018/2019 by a team from the Qualification and Curriculum Research department, utilising experience and concepts from other curricular research and development projects and together with representatives from all nursing schools in the state of Bremen. All nursing schools in the state of Bremen have now completed the curriculum at least once. This prompted the Senator for Health, Women and Consumer Protection to commission the IPP to evaluate and further develop the curriculum. The starting points for the revision were the schools' experiences with the "Bremen Curriculum", surveys of trainees, current developments in nursing science and nursing didactics as well as the reforms to the Training and Examination Ordinance for the Nursing Professions (PflAPrV) in the Nursing Studies Strengthening Act (PflStudStG).

The Bremen curriculum and the associated learning situations of the National Model Curriculum for Communicative Competence are received and used throughout Germany and beyond the federal state of Bremen. The revision included topics such as heat protection, sensitivity to difference (e.g. gender difference and diversity), promoting emotional competence and preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (Istanbul Convention).
